Goals / Mission

LEAPS Strategy Group SG3-ERA provides consultancy and support to the LEAPS Chairs and the LEAPS GA for strategically positioning LEAPS in the European Research Area.

The main goals of the group are:

  • Facilitate the active participation of the LEAPS Chairs in debates on European research policy,
  • Close monitoring of political developments in Europe and their implication on funding strategies for R&I,
  • Engagement with relevant actors in the European research and innovation landscape to position the interests of LEAPS (e.g. commissioners) and to explore cooperation potentials (e.g. by approaching strategically relevant partnerships),
  • Proposing strategic recommendations and articulating LEAPS’ vision for the upcoming EU Framework Programmes,
  • Support the drafting of position papers serving as the basis for engagement with stakeholders of European relevance,
  • Identify funding opportunities from European programmes.

Outcomes / Achievements 

The group kicked-off its activities in October 2024. Details on first results will come soon.

Ongoing Projects and Priorities

  • Facilitation of the discussion of the LEAPS Block Grant concept with the national funding authorities,
  • Discussion of concepts for potential proposals,
  • Identification of funding opportunities for the LEAPS Block Grant pilot proposals,
  • Development of a strategy for the engagement with European Partnerships, which are relevant for the research pursued at LEAPS facilities.

Meetings frequency

Four meetings per year in advance/ in preparation of the LEAPS GA meetings, complemented by additional ad-hoc meetings in response to current developments or emerging needs. At least one in-person meeting per year, typically during the annual LEAPS Plenary meeting.
