Strengthening Europe’s leading role in science and innovation: LEAPS MEETS QUANTUM TECHNOLOGY
LEAPS meets Quantum Technology – Conference
Isola d’Elba, Italy
With a one-year delay, LEAPS is delighted to announce the first of its conference series bringing together LEAPS and a Science community, starting with the latest developments in quantum technologies, and identify opportunities for both sides. The conference will give impulses for further development of instrumentation and methods. Since different fields are brought together, an important part of the conference will be tutorial sessions as well as networking opportunities such as moderated round-table discussions. The selected audience of this meeting will profit from quantum technology experts meeting the light source community in an open atmosphere at the spectacular setting of the Elba Island in central Italy.
Additional information, including conference poster and registration, will be coming soon.
Arrival Date: Sunday, May 15th, 2022
Start of the conference: Monday, May 16th, 2022

New FELs of Europe Tutorial coming up!
On November 8th, 2021, Francesca Calegari, Attosecond Science Group of the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science at DESY, will present a tutorial on “Attosecond technology to trace electron dynamics in matter:
She will address the electron time scale and show how attosecond technology can be exploited to get access to purely electronic processes such as charge migration or to clock photoemission delays. After presenting some results obtained by her team and collaborators using table-top attosecond sources, she will show perspectives of addressing the same physics at FELs.

Coming soon: New seminar series by LEAPS SG1

The LEAPS Strategy Group 1 announces a series of monthly seminars on
“Feedback from new DLSR sources“.
The first seminar “Feedback from the new ESRF-EBS Synchrotron”
will be given by Harald Reichert, ESRF Director of Research in Physical Science
on November 12th, 11:00 – 12:00h.

Superflat PCP: Open Market Consultation on Nov. 19th, 2021
An Open Market Consultation for the Superflat PCP will be held on 19 November 2021 starting at 9 am (CET). This meeting will be hosted by the ESRF as a virtual, zoom webinar, event.
Prior to issue of the PCP call for tenders, an Open Market Consultation with potential tenderers and end-users is being held to present the views of the market about the intended scope of the Research and Development. The results of this open market consultation will be used to fine-tune the tender specifications, so that the gap between state-of-the art industry development and the procurement needs is appropriately filled by the procured R&D services.
Attendance of the Open Market Consultation is actively encouraged but is not a prerequisite for participation in the Superflat PCP.

LEAPS meets Quantum Technology Conference 16–20 May 2022
Dear colleagues
In view of the evolution of the COVID-19 disease, we have decided to postpone the Conference “LEAPS meets Quantum Technology” to May 2022.
Among the reasons for this decision, let me mention reinforcing the prevention, taking into account the foreseen difficulties for travelling in the next future around Europe, and avoiding losing part of the fees.
I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, and I want, on behalf of LEAPS, warmly thank you for all the work you have dedicated up to now to the success of this first LEAPS conference. Most of this work will directly apply to the event on the new date.
And I want to thank also the speakers who have given their availability for participating in the program, which looks extremely interesting. We strongly hope they all will be available for the future rescheduled conference.
My best wishes
Caterina Biscari
